Given the concerns regarding fossil fuel consumption, climate change, and energy security, automakers are exploring new drivetrain concepts. Several of those concepts, such as hydrogen or batteries, have been proposed, however none of them present a performance comparable to hydrocarbons in terms of autonomy, refill time, and safety. In this context, metal fuels, due to their high energy densities, have great potential as energy carriers for automotive applications.
