thesis ’ purpose is to create a work manual for the waiters at Restaurang Käringsund on the Åland Islands. The theory part in the thesis brings up issues on what a work manual is, its purpose, outcome and content. Furthermore the case company is presented in the theory: history, operation, organisation and visions and goals. Mostly literary sources are used while they are considered as most reliable in comparison to electronic sources like internet. In order for the manual to be as good as possible, the former waiters of 2008 and 2009 were engaged in the project. The research was carried out as a quantitative research in the form of a questionnaire, which was sent to the workers in October 2009. The aim of the research was to find out if the former workers thought that a work manual would be of use and they were asked to give their opinion on the planned content and give suggestions on additional information to have in the manual. The outcome of the research was that the workers appeared to think the job was quite easy to learn at Restaurang Käringsund, but still they were in favour of a work manual
