EDITORIALS The Testing of Internists THE AMERICAN BOARD OF INTERNAL MEDICINE was incorporated in 1936 for

the "object of the certification of specialists in the field of internal medicine and the establishment of qualifications for such certification as well as the procedure neces-sary for the accomplishment of such object'' (Articles of Incorporation). Over the years the Board has used many different ways to attain these ends of the incorporators. They have been described in some detail by others, among them a Chairman of the Board who was at the same time President of the American Col-lege of Physicians (1).
