This report presents background, methodology, findings, and implications regarding the generation of demographic projections to the year 2000 of limited-English-proficient (LEP) Hispanic accessions in the U.S. Army who are eligible for English-as-a-Second-Language (ESL) instruction. Results show that the U.S. Hispanic population is projected to grow substantially between 1980 and the end of the century. The growth rate for Hispanics in the accession age range of 17.35 is projected to be over three times the rate for Blacks. In 1961, Hispanic accession rates were higher for males than females and were highest of all for insular Puerto Ricans.
