Framework of Response-to-Intervention

Response-to-Intervention (RTI) refers to a framework for providing support to struggling learners in the general education setting. There is no one model for RTI, but underlying the process are several key tenets: provid-ing a swift instructional response to the needs of struggl ing students, providing supplemental and differ-entiated instruction as assessments indicate the need, monitoring student progress with increasing frequency as students receive more specialized instruction, and using research-based practices in the classroom. To date, RTI models have focused primarily on reading interven-tion and typically utilize a three-tier approach. Tier 1 is traditional instruction that all students receive.
