Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is the most com-mon form of dementia, affecting approxi-mately 30 % of those aged over 85 years [1]. AD is classified as a neurodegenerative dis-ease, impacting on brain integrity and func-tioning, resulting in a progressive deteriora-tion of cognitive capabilities [2]. Moreover, since there is currently no treatment to cure or even slow down the rate of neurodegen-eration, AD significantly decreases life qual-ity and expectancy of those suffering from it.
