Turmeric (Curcuma longa L.) is one of the most valuable and important spice crops of the world. It belongs to the family Gingeberaceae and plays a vital role in earning foreign exchange for the country. Among various cultural practices soil fertility plays an important role on growth and yield of turmeric. The turmeric yield in eastern part of U.P. is very low inspite of a favourable agroclimatic conditions. Reason may be attributed due to the fact that inadequate supply of nitrogen and suitable planting distance. Therefore, considered as necessary to undertake a study to determinate the suitable dose of nitrogen and proper spacing to achieve maximum growth and yield of turmeric.
