Abstract-A thermodynamic continuum theory for contact behaviour under mild forming con-ditions is presented. The modelling of the contacts, balance laws, dependent and independent variables as well as entropy inequality are considered. It is shown that Maxwell friction models can be derived from the thermodynamic framework. 1
