To improve productivity as well as to encourage personal growth, there has been a limited but determined movement in some higher education institutions to use librarians in non-library related classroom teaching assignments in addition to their regular duties. The experiences of two college librarians vho temporarily assumed additional non-library related teaching duties are described, including their impressions of their classroom experience and its effect on their status. Their experiences are interpreted using a description by William Goode concerning the problem of professionalization of librarians and other selected discussions of professional status.
