This report describes the development and application of a model to study the movement of students in, through, and out of higher education in Australia. The model is designed to project the number of students, graduates, and dropouts by age, gender, and broad field of study. The model also estimates the probability of a student completing a program, the average time a student takes to complete a program, and the average time a student stays in the system. Among findings are the following: (1) female students and younger students have a greater probability of completing a program than males or older students; (2) engineering students are least likely and law students most likely to complete their programs; (3) the probability of completing ...
