Spillover between work and life away from work was studied with 100 college faculty, who lived in a small college town, where work and life outside of work appear closely bound. The effects of gender and academic rank on the incidence of spillover between work and nonwork were assIssed. Faculty from humanities and natural sciences departments and two professional schools were studied. Interviews and questionnaires were completed by assistant professors, associate professors, full professors under age 50, and full professors age 50 and over. Seventy-two percent of the sample were male, and 284 were female.
