Abstract: Several unsymmetrical heterobiaryls have been synthesized through palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions of lithium triorganozincates. The latter have been prepared by deprotonative lithiation followed by transmetalation using non hygroscopic ZnCl2·TMEDA (1/3 equiv). Key words: cross-coupling, heterocycle, metalation, palladium, zinc The importance of heterobiaryls in natural products and pharmaceutical intermediates, and their unique properties have stimulated tremendous efforts for the development of synthetic methods in the area of aryl-aryl bond formation.
