A cross-sectional study on drinking water quality in Jimma town was conducted from February to May 2005. Twelve water samples were collected and analyzed by different microbiological analysis. Microbiological analysis of the samples showed the presence of different microorganisms when the samples were fresh mounted. The average number of colonies obtained from colony count ranged from 26 to 395 colonies per plate per 1 ml. The bacteriological analysis showed that 25 % of the water samples were acceptable but need regular check-up, and the rest 75 % are either unacceptable or glossily polluted.
