Previous research using -fetoprotein knockout and aromatase knockout (ArKO) female mice suggested that the developing hypothalamic mechanisms that later control feminine sexual be-havior are protected prenatally fromestradiol, whereas shortly after birth, theymay be stimulated by this same sex hormone.
