We thank Akin et al1 for their interest in our article entitled ‘‘Evaluation of Platelet Distribution Width and Mean Platelet Volume in Patients With Carotid Artery Stenosis.’’2

Akin et al1 argued that previous studies showed that mean platelet volume (MPV) is related to the degree of carotid artery stenosis (CS). Reviewing the literature, there are conflicting results between the degree of CS and MPV.3-5 A large study from Italy showed that MPV is not related to the extent of coronary artery disease and carotid intima–media thickness.5 In our study, we divided the patients into 3 groups accordin
