Congenital blepharoptosis can vary from a slight cosmetic de-fect to a complete covering of the pupil by the eyelid. The sexes are equally affected and 25 per cent of the patients are bilateral. An ophthalmologic examination is indicated in every case to rule out strabismus or amblyopia. For moderate to severe cases the correction is surgical, preferably after the age of three.
