This study investigated the effectiveness of aluminum modified diatomite in removing lead from aqueous solution. Scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray Fluores-cence (XRF) and infrared spectroscopy were used to characterize the modified absorbents. Effects of several variables like pH, adsorbent dose, initial concentration and the reaction temperature on lead sorption were also investigated. Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models were applied to describe the equilibrium data. Values of ∆H, ∆G and ∆S illustrated that the adsorption of lead is an endothermic process of nature.
