Dye-sensitized solar cells (DSCs) have attracted great attention in academic research and industrial applications because of their high efficiency and the potentials for flexible and low-cost solar cells.1 As shown in figure 1, DSC typically consists of a dye-adsorbed nanocrystalline titanium dioxide (TiO2) electrode, an organic electrolyte containing an iodide/triiodide redox couple and a platinum-coated counterelectrode.
