In a recent issue of Peritoneal Dialysis International,intraperitoneal hydrostatic pressure (IPP) was high-lighted by the publication of an original article by Rusthoven et al. (1), in which the authors, among other things, investigated the influence of the peritoneal di-alysis (PD) solution osmotic agent on IPP in children. For 1200 mL of PD solution per 1.73 m2 body surface area, an IPP of 12.0 ± 6.5 cm H2O was measured, which is con-sistent with previously published data. While net ultra-filtration (UF) for 3.86 % glucose was 857 ± 125 mL mL/ 1.73 m2 in 4 hours, 7.5 % icodextrin produced 156 ± 147 mL/1.73 m2 UF volume during the same dwell pe-riod. For the 3.86 % glucose solution, mean IPP increased by 4.7 ± 4.4 cm H2O in 4 hours due to the relatively high net UF; for icodextrin, the increment was only 1.8 ± 3.4 cm H2O.
