Goal 4 for child survival.1 The Baby-Friendly Hospital Initia-tive (BFHI) is a World Health Organization/United Nations Children’s Fund (WHO/UNICEF) global program that was launched in 1991 and revised and updated in 2006. Its goal is to ensure the best start in life for all infants by making maternity wards protect, promote, and support breastfeeding. It recognizes that the practices around birth and early life have a major impact on establishing breastfeeding and thus improving child health and survival.2 Protecting, promoting, and supporting infant and young child feeding is essential for the healthy growth and development of children
