The Blueprint for Pharmacy calls for pharmacists and

technicians to work to their full scope of practice, which includes an expanded role for pharmacy technicians. More specifically, the Blueprint calls for “care [to be] provided... in a collaborative manner where pharmacists focus on medication management and patient health outcomes, and pharmacy technicians focus on drug distribution.”1 In addition, the Canadian Society of Hospital Pharmacists states that supervisory and/or management roles may be delegated to pharmacy technicians.2 Therefore, the time has come to engage pharmacy technicians as managers of the drug distribution system within hospital pharmacy departments.
