Geologic field mapping, and potassium-argon and rubidium-strontium geochronologic studies in the Avawatz Mountains, southeastern California, indicates that this range is primarily a single large fault block of Mesozoic plutonic rocks, flanked to the southwest and northeast by the Ceonzoic Arrastre Spring and Mule Spring faults, respectively. Several roof pendants of pre-Mesozoic metasedimentary rocks occur within the plutonic complex. Several moderate size and many small pendants of Paleozoic and Pre-cambrian metasedimentary rocks occur within the Mesozoic intrusive complex.
