This paper is focused on compiling literature and experiences about B’nai Mitzvah, Jewish rites of passage, and Israel travel in order to create recommendations for a meaningful and holistic Israel B’nai Mitzvah experience. It creates a model of what the purpose of B’nai Mitzvah has become and what it could, and perhaps should, be. The paper pushes back against the idea that B’nai Mitzvah, as it exists today, is truly indicative of a rite of passage that it is so often called. It also makes use of a survey designed to collect information about families who have traveled to Israel for B’nai Mitzvah as well as an interview with Rabbi Stacey Blank, a rabbi in Israel, who leads a number of these B’nai Mitzvah services each year.
