Cardiac troponin T (cTnT) and I (cTnI) are highly specific and sensitive biomarkers of myocardial cell damage and are now accepted as the ‘gold standard ’ diagnostic test for acute coronary syndrome and supersede the classical muscle enzyme biomarkers. While the understanding of the development and structure of the troponins has advanced, detailed biochemistry of the troponin molecules is complex and poorly understood.
