This paper first offers a rationale for the construction of a protocol for school-based assessment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and then presents a proposed diagnostic procedure. Guidelines were developed in the context of the definitional language regarding ADHD from the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders Fourth Edition as well as recommendations regarding the evaluation of ADHD made by the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, and the National Institutes of Health.
