A new approach to printing process control is presented. Innovative methods for man-ufacturing process control will be developed, using techniques which have previously been exclusively applied in classical and modern control theory. This thesis develops a model for the fluid motion induced during the printing operation, and describes appropriate techniques for in-situ process monitoring. A model in which measureable quantities and actuated signals were linearly related to unknown parameters was derived. These parameters reflected the properties of the solder paste and were estimated in real time using recursive least squares algorithms. Results of the estimation are presented for a linear and nonlinear model
