Lateral and stratigraphic variation of isotopic composition of sulfur in the Sullivan orebody has been studied as a result of extensive sampling and analytical work. A total of 221 separates were analyzed, of which 40 were galena, 24 sphalerite, 52 pyrite, and 105 pyrrhotite. Sulfur composition ranges from--10.4 to-3-4.7 per rail with a mean tSa4S value of-- 2.2 per rail. Stratigraphic dependence of isotopic variation indicates a syngenetic origin. Changes in sulfur isotopic composition at ore-waste contacts suggest that sulfide deposition is controlled by the supply of H2S (which is a function largely of basin geometry) rather than metal supply.
