SONOGRAPHIC AND HISTOPATHOLOGICAL CORRELATION IN DIFFUSED FATTY LIVER

We aimed to compare sonographic and morphometric findings that are acquired by true-cut biopsy in the diagnosis of fatty liver. One hundred and seventeen cases that had been undergone Ultrasonography guided liver biopsy were included in the study. Patients were grouped as grade 0 (normal), grade I, grade II and grade III according to sonographic finding and as grade 0, grade I, grade II and grade III according to morphometric finding and than the two groups were compared. Seventy-two patients were graded as grade 0, twenty-one as grade I, thirteen as grade II and six as grade III. Generally, the sensitivity of in Ultrasonography grading fatty liver was 90.4 %, the specificity was 97.3 %, positive predictive value was 95 % and the negative predictive value was 94.8 %. We did not observe any statistical differences between groups while assessed by Ultrasonography. Ultrasonography is an accurate method in diagnosis and also grading the fatty liver.
