Small heat-shock proteins (sHSPs) are one of four families of heat-shock proteins (HSPs) expressed in response to heat shock and other forms of stress (Parsell and Lindquist 1993). They are a diverse family of proteins that appear to be ubiquitous in nature, being found as surface antigens in eukaryotic parasites, as inclusion body-binding protein in E.
