As the introduction to this special section rightly points out, emotions have been the subject of social science research for many decades. From emotional resilience to emotional labor, and positive emotion to emotional energy, this research has largely clustered around Cartesian feeling, Darwinian behavio-ralism, technical linguistic analysis, or the evaluative emphasis of Sartre (Calhoun & Solomon, 1984). In doing so, it has per-petuated the reification of the rational, even as theoretical approaches have sought to reverse the mind–body binary.
