Cancer has played a prominent role in debates about same-sex marriage in the United States. It is likely that same-sex couple-hood is playing a reciprocally major role in the cancer experience of sexual minority patients with cancer. Unfortunately, little is known about these relationships in general, and less is known about how they function in the context of cancer. Our intention with this perspectives piece is to outline areas in need of further development for this underserved population of couples.
