The purpose of this article is to review literature on leadership and emotion to expose theory and questions on the association between leadership and emotion. Burns ’ (1978) implicit framework of leadership and emotion is revealed. Questions about leadership and emotion by scholars in the sociological tradition are presented. A research agenda is forwarded. Such a research agenda will provide valuable insights on leadership-a relationship that enhances our feelings of predictability and motivates us to action. Trust, credibility, commitment, motivation, and confidence identify central concepts in discussions on leadership. Indeed, more than 50 % of Americans surveyed by Kouzes and Posner (1993), rated the four characteristics of being.. °.. honest, forward-looking, inspiring, and competent as the most important qualities.. of the leaders they admired. Other characteristics of leaders that did not receive &dquo; as high a level of consensus, but were perceived as important follow-being fair-<0’.’&dquo; minded, supportive, broad-minded, intelligent, straightforward, and courageous.
