What Works for Me

Students who struggle with behavior problems, particularly those with inattentiveness, hyperactivity, and impulsivity, often have difficulty in school (Larson, Russ, Kahn, & Halfon, 2011). One reason is because they are not proficient in regulating their own behaviors. This is especially true for students with learning disabilities (LD) and behavioral dis-orders such as attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD; Harris, Friedlander, Saddler, Frizzelle, & Graham, 2005). Unfortunately, lack of self-regulation can result in off-task behavior, lead to poor academic performance, and eventually result in underachievement (Harris et al., 2005). To help students with self-regulation deficits be successful in school and at home, various strategies have been recom-mended.
