A method for the determination of iodinated organic compounds of urine, using an anion exchange resin, is described. The advantages and reliability of this method are discussed. The significance of the urinary excretion of iodinated organic compounds has been debated for the past 30 years. In 1930 Foster & Gutman reported, after feeding large amounts of diiodotyrosine to rabbits, that as much as 80 % of the iodine in urine was in the organic form, of which one-third ivas 3-5-diiodo-4-hydroxyphenyl-lactic acid and the remainder was diiodotyrosine. Later Elmer & Scheps [1934] stated that no thyroxine was excreted as such in the urine, while Davison & Curtis [1939] claimed that only inorganic iodine was present in the urine. More r...
