The Ln−LnI3 (Ln = La, Ce) systems and their individual components LaI3 and CeI3 have been studied by the Knudsen effusion mass spectrometry (KEMS). Monomer LnI2, LnI3, dimer Ln2I6 molecules and positive and negative ions have been identified in the saturated vapor over these systems. The formation of LnI2 in the Ln−LnI3 systems during high temperature experiments has been determined
