Dear Sir: We would like to comment on the recent paper by Klein et al (1), which clarifies some Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recommendations about authorized amounts for aluminum in large-volume parenteral solutions. Our recent study confirmed that aluminum contamination still exists in total parenteral nutrition (TPN) solutions despite many precautions observed by the manufacturers (unpublished observations, I 99 1). We found aluminum concentrations of 0.2-12.7 zmol/L (Table 1), which are similar to values published in the United States [0.41-I 1.34 mol/L (2)).
