Background. There are limited data on the performance of the pneumonia severity index (PSI) and CURB-65 (confusion, urea, respiratory rate, blood pressure, age ≥65) score, which were originally developed for community-acquired pneumonia (CAP), for patients with healthcare-associated pneumonia (HCAP). Methods. The performances of PSI and CURB-65 were retrospectively evaluated in patients with HCAP com-pared to patients with CAP using prospectively collected data between January 2008 and December 2010. Results. In total, 938 patients hospitalized with pneumonia were eligible for this study, consisting of 519 (55%) with CAP and 419 (45%) with HCAP.
