diet containing 20 % sardine meal. One group was later fed the diet supplemented with raw decorticated cottonseed as the source of approximately 0.026 % free gossypol, and the other group was fed the unsupplemented diet. Data were obtained on the hatchability of the eggs of the individual pullets in the different groups, and on discolorations attributable to gossypol in the yolks of their fresh eggs and eggs that were held in cold storage for three or four months. The data show that the gossypol in the diets was not inactivated by the amino groups in the four compounds or by any component of the sardine meal, at least not to a sufficient extent to counter-DELAPLANE (1949) suggested that the virus of a chronic respiratory disease of chickens...
