Ancylostoma ceylanicum has beets considered a synotsym of A. braziliense by nsany parasitolo gists, contrary to the opinions of de Faria'-t and Looss.4 However, Biocca presented new evidence that l. braziliense and A. ceylanicurn are distinct species. ' After examining specimens from Ceylon, Yoshida6 agreed with Biocca. In Taiwan, S. Yokogawa amid Nishigori in 1927 first reported this kind of hookworm from a cat. Although they referred to it as “A.bra ziliense (A. ceylanicum)†• its the first report,7 they referred to it as “A.brazilienee†• in 1928 and later.8 In a survey of endoparasites of 290 stray dogs its northermi Taiwami its 1957, Huang et at. reported A. braziliense in 67 %.9 However, in other recetst reports it is stated that the species of hookworm its cats and man in Taiwan is A. ceylanicum, not A. braziliense.'° ' “ The present study was utsdertaken to re exansine the question of whether A. braziliense or A. ceylanicum, or both species, occur in dogs, cats, amulman its Taiwan. MATERIALS ANt) METHODS Autopsies were done on stray dogs and cats captured in Taipei and tieighboring areas, and the ititestine, liver, and lungs were examined for parasites.
