A fungal epizootic among captive frogs in U.S.A. was investigated histologically and myeolo-gically. It was not possible to determine which of the fungi (Cladosporlum herbarum, Scolecobasi-dium humicola or Phialophora sp., probably gougerotii) was the pathogen. Utz (1963) in his description of human chromoblastomycosis, aid that infection in animals had not been reported. Yet, the first record of multiple deaths, due to a fungus, presumably very closely allied to those causing the human disease, dates from 1926 when Scott (1926) reported the death of 20 frogs and several salamanders from the collection of the Zoological Society of London.
