This annotated bibliography lists 336 entries, divided among 9 chapters, on the collaboration between professionals and families of children with emotional disorders. Entries are listed alphabetically by author within each chapter and date from 1974 through 1993. The first chapter, "Need for Collaboration, " briefly surveys the literature regarding families ' experiences in working with professionals and establishes the need for a different kind of family-professioral relationship. The next three chapters ("Persons with Severe and Persistent Mental Illness, " "Children with Serious Emotional Disorders, " and "Children with Other Disabilities") review the family-professional collaboration literature as it applies to three specific populations. Chapters 6 and 7 consider the literature on early intervention and general educational settings for children with emotional disorders. Available literature on how families and professionals can collaborate as advocates for children with mental disorders is reviewed in Chapter 8. A final chapter on empowerment lists materials stressing the principle of participant ownership of the processes of advocacy, intervention, and rehabilitation.
