Supercapacitors are very efficient storage devices located in the middle of the energy storage devices hierarchy due to their capability of delivering high power in short time which is translated by a low energy storage capacitance. This paper presents an overview of supercapacitor showing their advantages as well as their potential applications. A mathematical model taking into consideration the temperature effect on supercapacitors is formulated. Then, a technique for charging the supercapacitor using a classic current control technique, (PI controller), is presented. Finally, simulation results are shown and analyzed
