Gallium-67 Accumulation in Inflammatory Lesions In 1969, Edwards and Hayes (1) noted that gallium-67 accu mulated in the involved lymph nodes ofa patient with Hodgkin's disease. Since then, Ga-67 has been shown to localize in a variety of tumors as well as inflammatory lesions. Earlier studies (2,3) have suggestedthat the localization of Ga-67in inflamma tory lesions is due mainly to concentration of Ga-67 by poly morphonuclear leukocytes (PMN) at the sites of inflammatory reaction. In vitro studies of Ga-67 uptake, however, have con sistently revealed that PMN do not significantly accumulate Ga 67, unless the plasma membrane permeability barrier is disrupted (4,6).
