Demographic and economic events or outcomes play an important role in deter-mining the position of women in the family, society and economy-- namely education-• al attainment, age at marriage and occupational chojce. Philippine data from the Asian Marriage Survey of 1980 show that comparing two family generations, daughters have higher levels of education than their parents, marry later than their mothers, and are more likely to hold a job in the labor market. The education equation is estimated using a variance component model, while the age at marriage function is estimated as a proportional hazards model.
