The Systems CaF;LiF and CaF:LiF-MgF

Temperature-composit ion relationships have been measured in the CaF~-L iF and the CaF~-LiF-MgF ~ systems in the areas of l iquidus temperatures below 1000 ~ A binary eutectic composition of 80.5 mole % L iF and 19.5 mole % CaF ~ was observed to melt at 769 ~ A ternary eutectic composition of 59.0 mole % LiF, 2.9 mole % MgF~, and 13.1 mole % CaF ~ was observed to melt at 672~ Current interest in fused salts as meta l lu rg ica l process med ia has led to the examinat ion of re la-t ive ly low mel t ing f luor ide mixtures. Of p r imary interest are those f luorides of meta ls whose oxides and f luorides are thermodynamica l ly compat ib le wi th meta l l ic u ran ium.
