Abstract- The high level of debt that characterizes the capital structure of companies has always been one of the biggest problems of the Italian economy. Traditionally, Italian enterprises especially the small and medium sized enterprises have a weak financial structure, due to a strong imbalance of funding sources in favour of debt. The under-capitalization of firms, and therefore their dependence on borrowed capital, makes them vulnerable to risks that can arise from changes in the environment and external variables, ensuring that they have more difficulties to face periods of financial crisis, such as the recent one that we are experiencing.
