I appreciate Baumann’s (2010) reminder about the limitations of a narrow definition of evidence-based practice. Certainly, Baumann’s points about the need to consider the individual patient’s values, the clinician’s perspective, and the complex-ity of the healthcare situation are meritorious and deserve the emphasis provided by his paper. It is unfortunate, however, that Baumann (2010) did not mention earlier discussions of the need for an expanded view of evidence-based nursing practice.
