jfms.sagepub.com Radiology has frequently been used by archeologists to study ancient specimens, including buried or mummi-fied human and animal bodies from Ancient Egypt.1 The mummy of a cat, which is part of the Egyptian collection of the National Archaeological Museum in Parma, Italy, was examined radiographically in order to evaluate the content and to describe how cats were wrapped and mummified in ancient Egypt. The mummy was bought in the 19th century, along with most of the other artefacts in the museum’s Egyptian collection. In ancient Egypt, mummification was carried out on humans and many animals, including cats. It is known that from 1350 BC, cats were occasionally buried with their owners.
