SHORT REPORTS Ileal Loop Strangulation and Infarction Through a Hernia-Like Opening of Local Adhesive Pseudo-Membrane After Withdrawal from Peritoneal Dialysis

Encapsulating peritoneal sclerosis (EPS) is an unusual cause of peritoneal dialysis (PD) failure, with thus far inadequate treatment techniques and a relatively poor prognosis (1). The incidence of this disorder has been reported to range from 0.7 % to 7.3%. Kawanishi et al. have recently reported an overall incidence of 2.5%, but also took into consideration the impact of long-term PD (2). Encapsulating peritoneal sclerosis is characterized by a macroscopic cocoon-like encapsulation of the entire intestine, with accompanying peritoneal membrane scle-rosis.
