TUMORAL CALCINOSIS ASSOCIATED WITH CONGENITAL MALFORMATIONS OF THE HAND

Two cases of tumoral calcinosis are reported in children with congenital hand malformations. After excision of large calcific masses, reconstruction was performed using a free phalangeal graft in one case and a free toe transfer in the other. The term tumoral calcinosis was first used by Inclan ( 1943) who presented three cases, each with a calcified growth of unknown aetiology and pathogenesis. All occurred in negroes aged 10 to 19 years and the lesions consisted of a hard mass with large cavities full of calcareous deposits separated from one another by thick fibrous connective tissue trabeculae.
